Gloria V. Coombes, 84, of Peoria, IL, passed away at 7:00 a.m. on Friday, February 12, 2010, at Washington Christian Village Nursing Home in Washington, IL.
She was born on March 22, 1925 in Burlington, WI, a daughter of Arthur A. and Irene (Sutton) Verick. They preceded her in death, along with one daughter, Siri A. Coombes.
She is survived by her daughters, Stephanie (Jake) Katz of Chatsworth, CA, Samantha Coombes of Peoria and Charlotte Larsen of Escondido, CA; sons, John (Pamela) Coombes of Denver, CO and David (Teri) Coombes of Spring Hill, TN; sister, Vivian Leiting of Forrest City, AR; brother, Arthur (Boots) Verick of Bonita Springs, FL; and seven grandchildren.
Gloria was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. She retired in 2001, as a caregiver in Laguna Hills, CA. She was formerly an administrative assistant for the State Department and the Department of Defense in Washington, DC. She was a member of Faith Christian Centre in Washington, IL.
Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 15, 2010, at Mt. Hawley Cemetery in Peoria. The Reverend Steven Graffis will officiate. There will be no public visitation. Memorial contributions may be made in Gloria’s memory to the Faith Christian Centre Missions Program.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Clary Funeral Home, 428 West McClure Avenue, in Peoria.
